The Ingredients: Building Blocks of Flavor for our Cheesy Potato Cobbler

For the Filling:

  • 4 medium potatoes, sliced
  • 1-1/2 cups half & half for creaminess
  • A pinch of ground nutmeg
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For the Dough:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan

The Process: From Prep to Plate

Preparing the Oven and Pie Dish

Set your oven to a warm 400°F. Lightly grease a 9” pie plate.

Creating the Filling

Mix the sliced potatoes, half & half, nutmeg, salt, and pepper in the pie dish. Bake this mixture for 20 minutes.

Crafting the Dough

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Then, cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles crumbs. Stir in the milk, then mix in the eggs one at a time. Finally, fold in the mozzarella and parmesan.

Combining the Components

Once the potato mixture is partly baked, let it cool briefly. Then, spoon the dough over the potatoes. Bake for another 20-25 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
